Social Media Networking giant Facebook is hiring for Blockchain Engineers and Researchers. What? Yeah, you read it right.
Facebook (FB) is on a mission to adopt blockchain technology; the social media company published 5 job openings in its career page, hinting something big is coming in the near future from the company.
The relationship of Facebook with cryptocurrencies is not so enduring, the company had banned all the crypto and blockchain related advertisement on its platform in January this year, for a reason – some were utilizing its platform to advertise scams.
Later, in June the company lifted the ban with regulations, speculating that the team had noticed the revenue potential from blockchain and crypto advertisement. The ads are screened before advertising them on the company platform.
According to Sludgefeed, a new job listing is live within the company which is offering five new positions, and the describes the job – working in all areas of blockchain research from science, to engineering and marketing.
The Job listing states –
“The blockchain team is a startup within Facebook, with a vision to make blockchain technology work at Facebook scale. We’re exploring areas of interest across all facets of blockchain technology. Our ultimate goal is to help billions of people with access to things they don’t have now – that could be things like equitable financial services, new ways to save, or new ways to share information.”
Considering the potential that Facebook has with a base of 2 billion users is not unreasonable. It is more than enough justification to research a product or platform that involves cryptocurrencies, with enough capacity to cover globally as no other project could.
Will, there be new cryptocurrency or blockchain from the Facebook platform?
The progress or the things which are currently going in the company is evident that FB may be working on new technology or new crypto coin. The fact that FB has vast data centers, creating or integrating an existing blockchain network would not be new to them.
In August, we saw facebook’s blockchain head, David Marcus, leave the board of Coinbase to avoid a ‘confict of interest’ between the two firms. There were also rumors in the crypto-verse that Stellar (XLM) and Facebook were venturing out a partnership.
A Facebook representative provided a statement of David Marcus to Business Insider which read “Because of the new group I’m setting up at Facebook around blockchain, I’ve decided it was appropriate for me to resign from the Coinbase board,”.
The Cheddar, reported earlier in the middle of the year stated that Facebook is interested in developing a native cryptocurrency to help its vast user base conduct transactions without using fiduciary currency.
However, there is no official confirmation from the facebook, as to what the company is executing with the blockchain technology.
